One would think with all the changes going on in the mortgage industry….tight underwriting guidelines, fewer lenders, educational requirements, registration fee’s, value issues …if you are an Originator you likely will be discouraged. My take on it is a positive one. There are many reasons for this….
No more part-timers……those that are in the business almost have to be full time at this point in order to be successful. Fewer part time originators is great for this business and adds credibility to the the industry. Full time means focus and discipline.
Less competition—fewer originators means more opportunities for the survivors. Educational requirements, registration fee’s, and a tougher climate are eliminating the mortgage originator “wannabe”.
Fewer originators doing more volume adds to morale. The busier you are the more satisifed you will feel about yourself and your career. Higher levels of feelings of accomplishment. Less turnover. Higher income.
Professional atmosphere. The days of seeing originators in jeans and sneakers is gone, or close to being gone. Would you do business with someone that looks unprofessional? There are more people playing the part and caring about what others think of them.
Big changes in a short time…..We will be prepared to take advantage of the changing industry.

Over the past few months it actually looks like there are now new lenders popping up offering some nice new products that other lenders have abandoned in the past year or so. No doubt these programs will come at a cost such as higher rates, lower loan sizes and stricter underwritng guidelines…but it’s a start.

Wow. What a cycle we’re in right now in the mortgage and credit industry.
Inflexible lenders, long waiting lines, stipulations from underwriters that are borderline insane, added bureaucracy, increased costs, much tighter lending guidelines, fewer programs and interest rates that are trending upward. The only light at the end of the tunnel is for those in the industry that can stay the course — less competition down the line, fewer lenders, fewer mortgage brokers, and fewer choices for the consumer. Not good for the consumer but less competition is always a good thing for any business. I wonder if all these laws and protections set up over the years to supposedly protect the customer are now helping to just do the opposite….hurt the customer by limiting the number of lenders, mortgage brokers, and Loan choices since many companies are now exiting the industry.
The mortgage Broker is definitely the way to go nowadays since we know which lenders are impossible and which lenders have their heads on straight.

The good news is all this tightening of credit policies is probably just cyclical and many programs which are now unavailable will probably be back at some point in the future. The question is–how long until we’re back to normal? Hopefully not too long.

Ok..so maybe we don’t do all of the work…but we can do all the hard and frustrating parts….dealing with the underwriters, appraisers, title people, realtors, attorneys, creditors, and anyone else that may make it difficult for you. Yes, you may have to fax us some documents and you will probably have to be home when the appraiser comes by if it’s a refinance…but overall we can handle all the other aspects. The process can be frustrating and cumbersome and our goal is to make it as easy as humanly possible.
